Minutes Matter

A recent study from JAMA Internal Medicine suggests that as little as 10 minutes of exercise per day could be life-saving. Especially for people over 40.

The number one reason, or excuse, for people not exercising is lack of time. I’m here to tell you that lack of time is not a valid excuse. I’ve always said that exercise is cumulative. This means if you exercise 10 minutes on Monday, 20 minutes on Thursday, 10 minutes on Friday, you've done 40 minutes for the week. You don’t lose the 10 minutes you did on Monday because you didn’t get a workout in on Tuesday. And the recent study that I sighted proves that minutes matter. You don’t have to spend 90 minutes in the gym! Although the same study showed that an increase of 20-30 minutes could be even more beneficial.

Don’t get caught in the trap of using the words “just” or “only” when it comes to exercise. Instead, embrace the mindset that you did 10 or 15 minutes not “just” 10 or 15 minutes. Get in what you can when you can. Remember, it’s cumulative. Your goal is to get in at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week.
